Helmut Ortwin Pohl
Helmut Ortwin Pohl served as officer on Odilo Globocnik's staff who participated in deportations and resettlement in the Lublin District during the first half of 1942. The profile reconstructs the person’s function in Lublin, the Lublin District and occupied Poland through documented office, decisions, supervision or operational conduct. It does not assign every crime committed by an institution or region to one individual.
Confirmed findings
- From 20 January 1942 he belonged to Odilo Globocnik's staff in Lublin; on 26 June 1942 he left that posting and returned to Klagenfurt.
- A district document dated 9 May 1942 identifies Pohl as directing the onward resettlement of a transport of Slovak Jews that arrived in Lublin on 7 May: 841 people were sent onward and 199 men were retained in Lublin.
- The same archival material records his presence during the expulsion of local Jews on 9 April 1942.
- In 1972 he stood trial in Klagenfurt with Ernst Lerch, but the proceedings were interrupted after two days and finally discontinued without a judgment in 1976.
Place in the chain of responsibility
Pohl documents the local link between the arrival of a rail transport, selection of those retained for labour and dispatch of the others onward. A short, well-defined chronology does not justify attributing the whole of Aktion Reinhardt to him.

Postwar accountability
He was indicted in Austria with Ernst Lerch. The trial opened on 17 May 1972 but was adjourned after two days and never resumed; the proceedings were discontinued on 11 May 1976. Pohl died in 1997 without a judgment.
Limits of the evidence
His documented period of service in Lublin runs from January to June 1942. The material supports attribution of specific actions in April and May, not planning or implementing the whole of Aktion Reinhardt. Discontinuance of the trial means there was no judicial determination of guilt.
